José António Bandeirinha (Coimbra, 1958). He is an architect by the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto (1983). He is a Full Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra, where he received his PhD in 2002 with a dissertation entitled “The SAAL Process and Architecture on April 25, 1974”. Taking architecture and the organization of the space as a central reference, he has been devoted to the study of several related themes - city, housing, theater, culture. He publishes regularly and is the author of several books and a few dozen articles. He is currently Director of the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra, a position he previously held between 2002 and 2004 and between 2006 and 2007. He was Pro-Rector for Culture at the University of Coimbra (2007 to 2011). He was Director of the College of Arts at the University of Coimbra (2011-2013). He was Commissioner of the Exhibition “Fernando Távora Modernidade Permanente”, whose coordinator was Álvaro Siza, integrated in Guimarães European Capital of Culture 2012. He was Scientific Consultant of the Exhibition “The Process SAAL Architecture and Participation 1974-1976”, curated by Delfim Sardo and organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art de Serralves in collaboration with the Canadian Center for Architecture, Montréal, Canada. (2014-2015). José António Bandeirinha has been working regularly on the urban and architectural consequences of political practices, with a special focus on the Portuguese twentieth century.
