José Capela is PhD in architecture (thesis title: Operating conceptually in art. Operating conceptually in architecture). He has been teaching at the University of Minho since 2000 (now in both architecture and theater courses), and is a researcher at Lab2PT. He is cofounder and artistic codirector of mala voadora, with Jorge Andrade, and responsible for the scenography of the shows. He was one of the curators of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2010. He writes essays and presents communications about architecture, art and scenography. In 2013, he published the book on his work Ways of Doing Nothing, and is the author of a chapter in the book Aesthetics and Politics Among the Arts (Edições 70). He was nominated for the Prémios Autores for 'best scenographic work' in 2012 and 2017, and was awarded the prize in 2016 for Pirandello by mala voadora.
