As part of the UC Convida
cycle and integrated into the Práticas Oficinais II (Workshop Practices
II) course of the LAV degree, the session 'Às voltas com a Madeira'
(Working with Wood) will take place on April 14th at 11:00 AM at the Garagem
Avenida Textile Workshop.
The session, led by Cristiana
Bastos, aims to show how everyone can—even with limited resources and
materials—experiment with restoring, conserving, or creating small wooden
pieces. Drawing on her daily experience in a restoration workshop, the guest
speaker will discuss the characteristics and differences between various types
of wood and wood-based materials, as well as accessible materials and simple
techniques for experimentation.
Cristiana
Bastos is a self-taught restorer who
has dedicated the past fifteen years to furniture restoration and the
construction of small wooden pieces, sharing a workspace with two other
projects in the field. Her work is driven by a commitment to reuse, zero waste,
