Co)existences
is an exhibition by the second-year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho. It is part of the Triangular project, a partnership between the degree program, the CIAJG (Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães) and the CAAA (Centro para os Assuntos da Arte e Arquitetura), which began in 2022.

In previous years, the Indisciplinary Journeys, the exhibition’s codename, unfolded across the CIAJG, the CAAA, and Garagem Avenida. In this edition, the exhibition is centered at Associação Convívio, thereby engaging a vital agent within the cultural fabric of the city of Guimarães.

Throughout the academic year, the second-year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts carry out a range of exercises that structure their learning and assessment process. This exhibition is one such exercise.

For this edition, the students were proposed a theme based on what, in the jargon of contemporary art, is called site-specific — an expression used to classify both works that engage with the physical characteristics of the exhibition space and, in a broader sense, works that directly reference the exhibition site through its social, cultural, economic, political, or institutional dimensions. Associação Convívio, due to its particular characteristics, provided an especially fertile context for this exhibition.

The students were guided throughout the conception of their works by the artistic director of the CIAJG (Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães), Miguel Wandschneider, as well as by professors Susana Gaudêncio and Rodrigo Paglieri.
