He has supervised approximately 35 master’s dissertations on topics such as the extensively urbanised territory, public space design, and the transformation of the Portuguese Atlantic façade. He currently supervises four PhD students. In 2022/2023 he joined the teaching staff of the course Territory Forum: Public Space in the Advanced Studies Programme in Territory at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP).
At Lab2PT he has developed research on the teaching of themes related to the city and territory; team member of the digital platform https://onbeingwithit.lab2pt.net/pt. In 2017; team member of the project NoVoid: Ruins and Vacant Land in Portuguese Cities, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). As a member of the board of the UM-Cidades platform (2018-2020), he participated in the organisation and jury of the Municipalities of the Year competition, an anual event that promotes exemplary practices in city and territorial governance, contributing to a more sustainable and just society.
In 2020 he co-founded the association the Future Design of Streets (https://thefuturedesignofstreets.eu/) with Daniel Casas Valle, organising three webinar series and two international conferences (Porto, 2022, and Guimarães, 2025) that brought to Portugal some of the leading European experts involved in street transformation and committed to the decarbonisation of cities and their adaptation to a new climatic context.
Recognising that the transformation of public space and local mobility patterns requires interventions across multiple scales, he has sought to create spaces for debate and reflection at the intermunicipal and regional level. On this topic, he was written and organized public discussions involving political actors, technical experts and the wider community, for example, the recent debate held in Guimarães (2025) titled “Railways in Minho: articulating lines, building a network, serving the territory” and the opinion article “Railways in Minho and light mobility systems: building networks, strengthening accessibility, and enhancing public space”, published in Jornal de Notícias.
