11/18/2023 - 1/20/2024
As part of the Távora 100 - Commemorations of the Centenary of the Birth of Architect Fernando Távora program, the exhibition "The permanent value of Fernando Távora's work", curated by Vincenzo Riso and Ana Luísa Rodrigues, opens on November 18, 2023 at 3pm at the Guimarães Assembly Headquarters.
The exhibition "The permanent value of
Fernando Távora's work" shows studies carried out by students of the
EAAD-UM Integrated Master's Degree in Architecture, as part of the Project
Atelier U.C. (5th year), on the theme of conservation of Modern heritage. In
the 2015-2016 academic year, the students studied the Santa Maria da Feira
Municipal Market (1953/1959), designed by Fernando Távora. And in 2021-2022,
the headquarters of the Guimarães Assembly, also by Fernando Távora. Both
exercises were based on the study of the buildings, in order to define
interventions for their proper conservation and use. The particularized studies
of these two works are an attempt to reflect on the absolute qualities of
Fernando Távora's work, here specifically recognized in the correspondence
between the principles of idealization of the construction and its material
reality. This is how the results of the school's work are presented in a
coordinated exhibition.
The exhibition, organized by the Guimarães Assembly
(Rui Vítor Costa) and the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the
University of Minho (Bruno Figueiredo) (EAAD/UMinho) and with the support of
Guimarães City Council and the Landscapes, Heritage and Territory Laboratory
(Lab2PT), will be on display at the Guimarães Assembly headquarters until
January 20, 2024, from Monday to Sunday, from 13:00 to 22:30.
The Távora 100 programme is a joint initiative of the
Portuguese Architects Association, the Marques da Silva Foundation, the Faculty
of Architecture of the University of Porto, the University of Minho and the
University of Coimbra for the Organization of the Commemorations of the
Centenary of the Birth of the Architect Fernando Távora.
