The School of Architecture of the University of Minho presents, in the 2nd semester of the academic year 2020/2021, a new edition of its PhD Program in Architecture (PDA). Applications are open from December 7 to 18, and must be formalized through the student portal .
With an interdisciplinary vocation, this edition of the PDA aims to
question and rethink architecture beyond its limits, as an exercise committed
to contemporary issues, continuing the work developed at the 2019/2020 edition (www.arquitetura.uminho.pt/pt/Ensino/Doutoramentos
/Plano-A/Paginas/edicao2019_2020.aspx).
In this way, it opens again in an area
transversal to the three areas of specialty of PhD Program: City and Territory,
Construction and Technology and Architectural Culture. It is not enough to do
"for", it is necessary to do "with": with people, with land
and water, with the prosaic and with the scholar. This implies a huge
challenge, both for the academy and for candidates who wish to be committed to
this change. In this way, the doctorate embraces the United Nations'
sustainable development goals (SDGs) for transforming our world ”, says Cidália
Silva, Program Director and Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture.
Students selected to attend this PhD course at EAUM will also integrate the
Laboratory of Landscapes, Heritage and Territory (Lab2PT), an R&D unit
classified as 'Excellent' by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

This edition of the PDA is accompanied by 2 PhD Research Grants (BD), in
the Architecture area, opened by Lab2PT's and financed by FCT (detailed
information will be released soon)
In this edition, the PDA has the support of renowned researchers from
different disciplines, from philosophy to psychiatry, including archeology, geography,
engineering, history and sociology of childhood, including necessarily
architecture, with a guest from each specialty area of the course. At this
